How to Self Care during Self Quarantine

Finding time for self care before the quarantine began might’ve felt like a big enough feat, but now that you’re stuck inside, it may feel even more difficult. How do you find quiet time to unwind while you’re trapped inside, possibly with your spouse, kids, family, roommates? But, it’s more important than ever that you make time to fill your own cup if you’re hoping to maintain any semblance of sanity and peace during these trying times. Wellness begins with self care.

Here are 7 tips to help you self-care during self quarantine.

 

1. Nourish your body

This means drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet. We know how tempting rich comfort foods are during stressful times, but make sure you’re still getting enough veggies too! If you need some tips on avoiding stress eating, head here.

2. Experiment with new recipes

 

Since you have more time on your hands, now is the perfect time to try out all those recipes you’ve been eyeing in the app or on Pinterest. Get adventurous! Bake the bread! Try out that curry recipe you’ve had your eye on. Don’t be shy!

3. Start a mindfulness practice

This could be through meditation, writing, or yoga– you decide. Find an activity that allows you to slow your racing thoughts, focus on your breathing and release all the stress of life around you. 

4. Take a hot bath

 

Take an epsom salt bath, or drop a bath bomb into the tub, light a candle or two, shut off the bathroom lights and allow the stress to melt away. Bring a book with you or binge Love is Blind or daydream while you’re in there… whatever helps you relax and de-stress.

5. Schedule virtual meetups with friends

Schedule a virtual coffee date with your best friend. Plan a group video call with your favorite group of people. Join in on the community calls you see popping up on Facebook! Being quarantined at home doesn’t mean you can’t see your people and socialize.

6. Take a walk alone

If you’re still allowed to take walks outside, do it! Even better, do it alone! As you walk, take deep, purposeful breaths. Pay attention to your surroundings. What do you see/hear/smell? Take in all the details of what’s around you. This is going to help get you out of your head and into the present moment.

7. Have a dance party

 

Whether you do this alone, with your quarantine buddies, or join one of the virtual dance parties happening all over the internet, if you’re able, put on your favorite dance music and bust a move. Bust as many moves as you want! Dance until you’re sweaty and breathless. Dance until you’ve forgotten you’re quarantined at home, and then dance some more. It’s the ultimate stress reducing workout!

We are living in stressful and uncertain times. That doesn’t mean you have to hold fast to that stress every hour of every day. You can’t be of any help to anyone if you’ve allowed yourself to become completely drained. So, we’re begging you!
