September 7th marked the beginning of the iTrackBites 25-day September Reset challenge, (read more about that HERE) I am so excited to follow along! One thing I see frequently within our communities is members struggling to remember to track everything, or not tracking at all. It happens! To be totally transparent, I have done both. The best way that I have found to combat this vicious cycle is to pre-track! I like to say, I track before I bite!
Here is why you should too, and how to get into the habit of pre-tracking every day!
You are automatically accountable! The best part is, if you can stick to it there is less stress throughout your day and no second thoughts if you tracked that afternoon snack.
Try to set a small amount of time aside time each day to track your meals the day prior. Even if you just track your breakfast, lunch, or dinner and omit the snacks to start, you’re headed in the right direction.
Give meal planning a try! Knowing what you’re going to eat every day of the week can also be implemented into pre-tracking. Create a weekly menu, do your shopping, then try out the new meal plan feature within the iTrackBites app, you can even use one of the meal plans that are already within the app. Plug your meal plan in with your ingredients into your app, decide what dates to follow that meal plan and you’re set!
Pre-tracking can give you a fresh perspective on your eating habits, not only that but you will feel so much more confident and empowered, you will realize you have more control than you thought you did.
Not only will this help you reach your goals, but you will be more mindful of what you’re eating and will likely make better choices instead of just grabbing the quickest thing to eat that is in front of you, which may or may not be the best option for your daily tracking. Knowing what you want to spend your BITES on ahead of time is a great mindfulness practice.
Finally, be consistent, consistency is a huge variable in this journey. If you’re consistent with pre-tracking you will feel better overall, and if you have left-over BITES and something comes up, you will feel better knowing that since you pre-tracked your regular day you have room for that little extra!
